Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A fire broke out at around 1 AM on Monday at a five-storey hotel located at 44A Sarat Bose Road in South Kolkata. The blaze originated in the top-floor conference room. At the time of the incident, more than 50 people were staying in the hotel across multiple floors. Several guests had come from out of town for medical consultations or official work and were accommodated in various rooms.
Following the detection of the fire, emergency response was initiated, and all hotel occupants were safely evacuated. There were no reports of injury or casualty. The fire spread rapidly, prompting the fire department to deploy resources quickly. Two fire engines were initially dispatched, and later three more were added due to the intensity of the blaze.
Firefighters broke the glass panes of the conference room and other affected rooms to allow smoke and flames to escape. The firefighting operation lasted for over two hours, and the fire was brought under control after approximately two hours and ten minutes. The operation involved active coordination among the fire teams, who ensured containment of the fire to prevent further spread within the building.
Preliminary findings suggest that the fire may have started due to a short circuit in the air conditioning unit in the conference room. A detailed investigation is underway to confirm the exact cause. No hazardous materials were reported from the site. Damage was confined mainly to the top floor, with smoke affecting some adjoining areas.
